trans in a '89 ram CTD
its an auto so i would guess that it is a 727, and the A518 is still in first gens but it has OD correct? Anyways moving right along, how much power will the 727 hold (assuming i was right in saying that it would be in the '89). I'm not looking for a sled pulling monster but i plan on doing a fuel pin and maybe injectors later etc.. the smaller mods... Just wondering how far I can go before i need to look at a 47re/47rh (BTW what is the difference).....TIA
Yes it's a 727
It'll hold alot of power if it's in good shape. Check the sticky and look for the trans rebuild post, it's by bc 847. He did a 518 which has the overdrive but many of the front components are the same. He also hasthe name of the trans part supplier.
The difference between the 47rh and 47re is that the rh is hydrolicly controlled and the re is electric. 94 95 trucks have the rh and that's it.
If your trans in in good shape, a shift kit, adjust the bands, and run her as is. Some like to beef up the TC by Hughes, Something that I'll be looking into soon.
Hope that helps
