14,000 lb GCVW is the factory rating. Works out to about an 8k trailer.

I read somewhere it's 7,000. Maybe that's for the W models cause they weigh more.

Definitions and acronyms, the plague of many things in our modern life, here goes... legally (def. by USDOT, NHTSA, etc. there is no GCVW:

The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the amount recommended by the manufacturer as the upper limit to the operational weight for a motor vehicle and any cargo (human or other) to be carried.

The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is the sum of all GVWRs for each unit in a combination-unit motor vehicle. Thus, for single-unit trucks there is no difference between the GVWR and the GCWR. For combination trucks (truck tractors pulling a single semi-trailer, truck tractors pulling double or triple trailers, trucks pulling trailers, and trucks pulling other motor vehicles) the GCWR is the total of the GVWRs of all units in the combination.

I have the owner's manual for this model year. It says that the GCWR will vary for the A518 according to whether or not you have the optional under bed "super cooler". It's 12000 without and 14000 with. Up to 17000 for a manual tranny. Curb weight of 2WD SRW standard cab is 4900. Conservatively, 6.5k or 8.5k trailer, depending on how much crap you keep in your bed.

I load the trailer and if the truck pulls away with the hitch still hooked to the truck then Im legal. I hauled a 32 foot wooden lobster boat out of the water once with just the front wheels on the ground. The back tires were in the air. Good nuff!

No. it was a rear hitch. I had the boat to far back and as I came up the ramp it picked the rear wheels off. It was pretty funny.

If I can stop it i'll pull it. I've been into too many train wrecks pulling stuff I can't stop. And everything I have will pull way way more than it can stop.

Yup, stopping seems to be the defining point, not taking off. Almost any diesel will get your load moving, stopping can be hairy.

My boss has pulled a 540 backhoe a few times with his Powerstroke dump truck. I think the gain on the trailer brakes were cranked and it was still a little scary. Yanked it without too much problems though
