I know this has talked about a hundred times, BUT... I'm leaning towards a sun coast or a georend. Has anyone ran a BD diesel converter?

 

I've never ran one but I've heard they are alright. I'd venture a guess they arent as good as a goerend or suncoust though. that's the general consensus I get from the info I've read.

 

we have one in the wifes rig. feels pretty good. better than stock for sure.caught on sale for less than 500 and don't regret it.

 

don't think that just the "big" names can build a good converter. plenty of less known places out there that have in the business s long time.

 

I spoke a tach from georend, he strongly recommend the 300 rpm lower stall over the 500.

No one in particular, I went with a california company that is not as well know in the diesel community but has been doing converters since 69'. I am swapping the converter and 518 into the truck within the month, so I will have results. Name of the place is Mojave Green converters. Good people and good product. I got a full walk through of their shop and the processes used. He (the owner) even had some of the big name competitors converters there for comparison.

 

I dynoed 405HP through a georend over the weekend made over 100 pass down the 1/4 mile and drove the truck to every event from Canada, Washington, Idaho and Oregon. 3 years and still going like the day I put it in.

I`ll let you know how Goerend`s stuff runs hopefully in a couple of weeks, pulled the trigger on it yesterday and should be here in a week or so. Rear main seal decided to finally go from drip drip to "OMG it`s POURING out!!!" so while the trans is out I`m going to go thru it and toss in a Goerend for good measure. I`m psyched.

 

I run a Goerend manual vb in my p pump truck, he builds great stuff. Just saying to hold the 400~ or so hp is different than 800+. Non-lockup does present a new challenge though, but any good converter shop has been dealing with them for years.

Choose who you want, its your money. I'm just tossing my opinion out there.

 

Which converter did you get. 300 or 500 under stock stall. I've heard the 500 may not let my turbo spool as fast- comments?

 

roughly a 1300rpm stall, so a 300~ rpm drop. It has all the upgraded internals as well along with the new stator.
