That plastic timing pin is, I believe, in the backside of the timing case, and not the pump. It tells you when you're at TDC.

Good theory, but he talks about both in the article. I think he is confusing the ve with a different pump. I looked at my ve and see nothing where he is talking about. Either way it is bad info concerning the ve...Mark

While I'm in here and because the title of this thread is useful information and even though it has nothing to do with first gens and it may be a hijack (can one hijack their own thread?), I thought I would pass this on to some of you guys (and gals). Are there any current or former law enforcement, EMS or firefighter folks around here? Also current military? It also applies to retired military, law enforcement, EMS and firefighters. There is an Oakley website, here , where you can buy Oakley sun glasses, prescription included, tactical gear and all kinds of neat stuff at huge discounts. It is an official Oakley site that wants to provide for the heroes (except modest me) to get the things that make the job easier. Here is the mission statement from their site:

Oakley takes great pride in offering the highest quality products at a direct rate for US Military and Government personnel. The program is for US active duty military, reserve, federal and local law enforcement, fire, EMS and those holding military retiree credentials. We have developed a strong program over the past 20 years and we want to ensure that the integrity of the program is maintained.

For US State and Local Customers: Please select the Option 1 or 2 on the Online Application ID Submission screen.

For US Military and Federal Customers: The .gov or .mil email address entered during registration will be used to confirm your approval.

How to Participate in this Exclusive Government Program
For State and Local Customers: After your ID has been verified, you will be able to place your order.

For Federal and Military Customers: After your .mil or .gov email address has been verified you will be able to place your order.

Account verification takes about 48 hours or less. For a listing of eligible agencies please visit our Member Registration page.

You cannot place an order until you have been approved. Once we have reviewed your submission you will be sent an email confirmation and are considered an approved member. Approval of your submission is valid for one year. Your account is authorized for your use only; it is not transferable to any other individual.

It is not necessary to be buying for the job, personal use is ok. I used them when I was active, but later contacted them after I retired and was approved for the program, it is a great deal, enjoy...Mark P.S. It is not very well known, even in public safety or military circles, so I am just trying to get the word out...
