Well i was out at the county fair grounds today. I had a bad feeling about parking the grass. Sure enough i didn't make it to the parking spot and ended up stuck with my BFG commercial T/A doing nothing(also I haven;t put the front drive shaft in yet after my trans rebuild which did not help). Some scouts shoved me out and I went to higher ground.
Anyhow I have the 8 hole alcoa classics in the basement. The C rated tires on them just won't do as I drive the truck alot. The wheel size is 16x7.
I was thinking about the BFG mud terrains in 255/85R16. However They are D Rated. For right about the same price I can go E rated BFG All terrain 285/75R16. I am pretty happy with the BFG's I have on the truck now I just want something a little more agressive. I know people have put the 285's on the stock wheels 16x6 so i would guess 16x7 would be fine? Both tires run about 33 inches tall. I plan on doing a 2-4 inch lift at some point. Will there be clearance issues with the taller tires on a stock truck? Any other thoughts or ideas on tires for my truck?

 

285/75/r16's are the stock tires.

I was in the same boat you were with the Alcoa's and what size/style tires to pick. I ended up scoring a Craigslist deal a few weeks ago on a set of 265/75/16 all-terrian tires. The tires are almost brand new and made by Avon. Not sure about the brand? But they seem to be of decent quality. The load range also was E! Anyway, I picked this size of tire because they are way more common in the load range E. I also think this size and load range was stock on newer Dodges and Ford Powerstroke rigs. I included a pic for your viewing pleasure!

 

235-85-16 is stock, some trucks 225-85-16 even. I say sell me those Alcoa's and I'll help you install the front driveshaft.

 

I'll tell ya what..........keep your eyes peeled! I saw some awesome deals on CL for Alcoa's that came off of Ford pickups and Vans.

265s are whats on the alcoas now, I want something just a little taller.
Your truck does look sweet with them. Its good to see a 4x4 club cab with alcoas. Now that I took the running boards off the truck looks so much better. I'll see how my other projects go for the day and maybe I'll mount them up and see how I like the look of the 265s.
As for the front driveshaft installed/alcoa trade deal I just got done putting it in so that won't work out.
As for Toyos I was going to give them a shot and many say great things about them problem is I cannot find them anywhere local and this is in chicago. Tirerack who I deal with doesn't carry them in truck sizes. I one chain in chicago that does have them must get the gold plated ones because thats the price they are charging when I checked.

So the alcoa caps that you have to put on these wheels are they made to be held on by the lugnuts like a dually setup but you are actually pushing them through the backside. And did you shave an 1/8" off the back of the wheel so the lip sits flush. My alcoa dealer says they don't make a push trough cap so the way I plan to do it is as above and I thought you were planning to do something similar?

I would go buy the tire of your choice ! They will look great with any tire and post a picture when it is setup.

I have push thru Alcoa made covers. The back of the wheels since they have no ford blood in them is beveled to accept a push thru cover. I personally like the no cover look and on the fronts I have to have it open for the hub locks.

 

I ran into the same issue with hubcaps. Mine are Ford Alcoa's........no big deal. At first I was concerned about having no hubcaps and the pickup looking bad, but it soon grew on me. I like the way it looks without hubcaps.

 

those wheels look great Marv. Sleep well knowing you have the highest weight rating 16-7 rim in the world. And it looks cool too...
