Tires...

Survey, what kind of tires do you guys run? I need some new ones and I do not know which way to go, so I thought I would turn it over to you guys. Remember I am in Minnesota, it snows here....
My last truck I ran Michelin LTX A/T, I loved them but they are pricey, especially for 215 85/16. So let's hear what you guys run..
Thanks,
Paul

Re:Tires...

Im running 215-85-16 tires, Just bought toyo M55 tires.
An oil company here in Colorado runs them on all their 1 tons. the owner said they are the best and I believe him. they are oil field tested ;D. I have put them on 2 trucks now and they are very good. they are medium agressive.
go to the toyo website and they should have pictures of them.

Re:Tires...

Michelin all the way. My last set of tires were Michelin XPS Traction tires and I got 100,000 km. The new tires are Michelin LTX A/T and bought from Costco.
---
Al

Re:Tires...

I've only owned my '93 4x2 club cab for 1 month, but it has been riding on Pepboys 235/85/16's and it surprisingly handles quite well. They had about 5k miles on them when I got them and I have put on another 1200 miles or so. Heck, they still have the beads on them! However, what I would like to know is what PSI I should be running in them. I was told from an old timer who owned a '91 standard cab 4x2 that he was running very low pressure in the front compared to the rear because of the heavy engine he said with too much air his truck would wonder all over the highway. Does this sound right? I haven't tried it, but ......?

Re:Tires...

I believe that with more weight, you should run more pressure but not to exceed the max rating on the sidewall of the tire.
less pressure gives your tires more flex in the sidewalls, in turn a less stable ride.
with more weight you also need more pressure to keep the foot print flat on the road. with not enough pressure to weight you will cause the outside of your tires to wear.
too much pressure to weight will cause the center of the tire to wear.
more of my 2 cents ;D

Re:Tires...

Cooper AT 235's. Fairly agressive tread with E-rating. Pretty good in the snow last winter. Get lots of snow every year, and I had it off the beateb path. Plan on plowing too. You aughto be able to go with 245's, I just didn't want to wait for them to come in.

Re:Tires...

;D all great info. I went with the Yokohama 235 85/R16 (taller and wider) Geolanders w/ E rating w/ pretty aggressive tread (I can not remember which ones I got, but they will be in on Tues and I will let all know how it goes). They came highly recommended from a trusted source, they claimed to be almost as good as the Mich, with the exception of the super deep siping which makes the Mich. so good. Evidentally they have very similar compound.
Thanks for all the input...
Re:Tires...

how about suggestions for good wet traction tires? I'm tired of having to baby my truck around everytime the roads are wet, and by winter I'll probably need tires. When it snows I can lock the hubs in, so they don't have to be great snow tires.

Basically, my truck runs over the road most of the time, tows up to 10,000lbs. So I need a tire that can handle that load, not howl on the road, get good tread life, and have great wet traction I'm currently on 265/75's, which are a touch shorter than the stock 235/85's. I wouldn't mind going to a 275/75 for a little more brawniness, as I've got aftermarket 8" rims.
