timing-power loss?

I took my truck in to the shop to get the spring fixed as I previously stated and asked them about advancing the timing to help my white smoke problem. The head guy said that advancing the timing would result in torque loss.He said retarding it will make more torque. Will I lose power if I have them do that?

Yes you will lose a bit of low end tq. Advancing the timing affects your hp and tq peak. Advancing will gain more hp but lower your tq a bit. Dont retard the timing, you can get past the lost tq due to advanced timing with injectors.

After advancing my pump I lost about 3-5psi of boost and seat of the pants meter definately said I lost some low end. After the POD's went in last year, it was back.
