Timing case/ Front crank seal

Getting ready to do the KDP while the truck is down for the head gasket. My buddy is out pricing parts. The autozone wants 38.00 for the timing case gasket(felpro) and 50.00 for the front crank seal(timken)? is this correct or are there better deals? Sounds a little high to me. Pay the price or shop around?

crank seal

moparmarv,

I just now got off the phone with Cummins south here in Jacksonville Florida, and the parts man said it was $27 and some change. Heres the part #3937111, hope this helps ya out, whaen comes down to, try to buy the cummins parts, there built better, some times a little more, but its a piece of mind thing.

After some of my experiences, I would lean towards genuine Cummins parts.

This should prove handy with installing that crank seal ~ https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=126282

I went to Cummins today and priced... I did not get the part numbers but I was told $30.22 for the seal AND $22.84 for the timing cover gasket.

Total: $53.06

I'm going to have to call back and research the part number 3937111 $27 is much more preferable to a 50 dollar bill.

Front seal kit # 3804899. Includes installer and dust cover. Supposed to work on all 12 valve Cummins.
Cover gasket # 3914385. Was told it will only fit VE pump trucks and the p-pumped cover gasket # is 3918673. Don't know the difference.

Some more numbers...

I called Precision Automotive Diesel in Rockford today and they're offering
P#3914385 -- the timing cover gasket for $12.05

They're also less expensive on the crank seal @ $28.21

AND the head gasket P#3283335 for $97.79

I'm down south near Midway BUT they've beaten every price that my Cummins dealer in Hodgkins has given me. (22.84 -- 30.22 -- 104.78 respectively)

I did my dad's 95' and my 92' kdp's in one day. the diff in gaskets is on the lower drivers side the timing cover makes a different jog over about a half an inch difference in the ve pumped motor vs. the p pumped one. Its just enough to require a different gasket. Got all the gaskets and seals from MHC Kenworth in salina a cummins dealer. About 100$ cheaper than oreillys on all the stuff.

Here it is.
Use the instuctions off TST's website to install the seal. I just did mine yesterday.
The clear plastic piece in the seal install kit is a guide. It stays in the seal while your installing the cover over the crank. Once the cover is held in with a few bolts you can pull it out, insert the thin dust shield and then install the crank damper.
I don't know why the Fluidampner would'nt work on yours. Is it possible there is a crossmember within 3/4" directly below the stock damper? If not, it should work.
