throttle sticking

I had the entire throttle bracket assembly apart tonight found out where my problem resides. the spring that is down below where the red arrow is pointing is worn out and is not doing its job. has anyone else had this problem? if so do you happen to know the part number that i would need to fix it.

is it the throttle shaft bushing that is listed in the sticky? 1-463-161-849 Throttle Shaft

I've got an auto and don't have a spring there and have never seen one there before. I'm wondering if it holds a gear/s longer?

It returns the trans cable to the idle position so it don't rattle your teeth with hard/late shifts.

if your truck is an auto you should have a spring there.

that is not the spring that i am in need of though. the one i am after the one below the red arrow. you can see part of it down and to the right of the red arrow.

The early auto trucks don't have an external spring. Its hidden under the rubber boot. You can check it by pushing back on it. No need to panic.

What is the problem you are having?

That is the TV cable for the transmission, mine has a spring to keep it pulled forward I also keep the some good grease on the part where it slides. This adjustment is critical to the quality of your shift.

Is it any of the parts we can see here?
Jim

the problem i am having is that the throttle is not going all the way back to idle when i let off the peddle. if i push where the red arrow is pointing (towards the firewall) it will return to normal.

where the yellow arrow is pointing in the picture below is where the spring is that i believe needs to be replaced. i had all the cables and rods off the assembly and the part where the red arrow pointing is very week at returning to the idle position when it has nothing attached to it. thus why i believe it is the spring.

More likely the shaft is rusty and sticking in the bushings. Pull the bellcrank assembly apart and check it out. It's held together with a clip on the engine side.

i had that partially pulled apart and was scared to pull it the rest of the way with out parts on hand in case something broke. should i be able just to pull the bellcrank apart and clean it up or should i get the bushings for it before hand.

Yeah, it should come apart without much trouble. If you're nervous, take the whole throttle bracket off the side of the engine. It's only 2 nuts and a bolt.

If it is rusty, polish up the shaft, put some grease on it, and put it back together. You probably won't need any parts. I've found that either the bushings are worn out completely, or the shaft is rusty so the bushings are too tight.

thanks dave, i got it all fixed up today. the shaft was rusted in both ends and the bushings were seized to the shaft not allowing it to rotate all the way back.
