thought on oil pressure

What happens if you can't remember when you last changed your oil filter, and you don't think it's got all that many miles, but aren't sure?
The rear main leaks enough that new oil is put in regularly.

Change it?

It's like $10 for a new filter.

Does the filter look old or new? Because sometimes you can actually tell if it's been there a while or not.

I can't remember if I changed it last spring or the fall before. I've been primarily driving the amigo since last February.
Wondering if it could by-pass and affect the oil pressure?
I think my sending unit is bad but I got to thinking I'm not sure when I actually last changed the filter.
I know I know, a marker or a nail could go a long way to preventing that.

Change it. It is much cheaper than an overhaul.

DUH! But I'm wondering if the $55 sender I ordered from Cummins was a waste of money.

Sorry, I'm not asking about what to do with the filter, I'm wondering if what looks like a bad sending unit could be the filter.
The trucks' not moving again this week. Too much rain in the last 24 hours.

Won't be the filter, might be the oil bypass though if you mean indicated low oil pressure.

I sharpie the date on all my filters. I don't put that many miles on mine so I change it about every 4 months.

I've got a filter on the way. I didn't know if the filter got clogged up if it could block off oil pressure or by-pass and dump pressure. I'm hoping it's the sending unit. It's from NAPA and 2 years old. One change at a time I guess.
