Thinking of going back to a first gen?
I have owned 2 first gens, a 92 D350 and a 93 D250 and liked them both. I now have a 2nd gen club cab that I also like, but up popped my dream truck a crew cab first gen. Can first gen performance parts still be found? Are replacement parts getting hard to find? It will be tough getting used to not having creature comforts like cup holders, power mirrors, power door locks, etc. but simplicity is reliable. I am sure it would have more cab noise also due to the plain interior. Also it is a non intercooled first gen, can they still make decent power? I would be using it to tow approximently 7000lbs which my slightly modded p-pump does easily now.
well you would be better off posting in the 1st gen section. but the Non/ic first gens make more power with stock injectors, but EGTS can get high. and performance parts are few and far between, but they are still there. and they pull 7000lbs with no problem, even stock.
GET IT GET IT, but if you don't want to just pm me the info and I'll get it out of your sight
.
I have a non ic first gen and absolutely love it. I think that it has gobs of power and yes there is plenty of aftermarket parts available and replacement parts to. You could make your own cup holders and you could also install power windows and locks with a little time.
I would say if you like the 1st gen and it is truly your dream truck go for it if you don't you'll regret it for a long time.
But thats just my opinion.

Do you have any egt problems towing with your non intercooled trucks? Is there still custom intercoolers out there? Bank$ used to make them. Would I need one with slight pump mod's and towing 7000lbs? Thanks for the replies!
I may be mistaken here, but you can probably swap out the VP-type pump for a P-7100 on a 1st gen engine...it's not going to be cheap however. I think an intercooler would take a lot mroe work, but I'm sure it's been done.
Aside from having an interior designed by a team of Six-Sigma greenbelts, they aren't bad trucks at all. And some folks like that sort of thing...so if you like it, go for it.

I have a real EGT problem but thats because of my custom (personaly) ground fuel pin and I have my pump turned up as far as I can go. But on the same hand I can keep them under control with my right foot and a valet switch. I would suggest you go over to the first gen section and take a look at the Sticky there are some really good write up's on there and as far as intercoolers there is a good write on a "powerstroke" intercooler install. There is plenty you could do to get great power and still be able to tow and not have to worry about your temps.
saggys, as far as creature comforts are concerned, mine has power windows, power locks and power mirrors. Cup holders? get a couple of those cheap plastic ones that hook on the top inside of your door!

Can you keep the 2nd gen, or do you have to sell it to obtain the crew cab? It's not impossible to intercool an early Dodge, but there is some fab work involved. Depending on the hills you pull, a water/methanol setup might be a lot cheaper and easier way to control egts on the bigger hills. 7k is not that much weight. I pulled that much across I80 in PA before I intercooled my truck and was easily below 1100 with the ocassional shift...and I got 18mpg doing it
Sounds like a decent truck, but what's in your sig is a lot to give up....
as for power, you'll find folks with stock power to over 600rwhp with a VE pump--how fast do you want to pull that 7k?

My first gen came with power locks, windows and mirrors stock.
Definitely not as plush as my 3rd gen limo though.
I just finished driving 1010miles this weekend in the 3rd gen, could not have done that in the first gen.... either that or i am getting old.
