Thinking about some mudflaps

So, my truck has the little molded mudflaps on all 4 wheels...little dinky fellas that pretty much just catch some dirt, but don't do anything for rocks.

I was cleaning on my boat a few weeks ago, and noticed a bunch of rock dings in my gelcoat.

Both my driveway and the boat launch are gravel, and when I get out on the road from either place, I can hear rocks dinging off everything under the truck for a little while.

So, I'm thinking of some big ol' ugly mudflaps, like the ones on a dumptruck or tractor trailer...something to stop the gelcoat madness.

Anyone have any input on that?

Do that thing some of the campers do, make a bar with a piece that fits over your hitch and only use it when pulling somthing.

There are these ones, but I don't care for the dodge sign with the cummins sign:

And these are the ones I have. Need to trim them cause they are for a rig, but I like just the big C.

If any truck could pull off big rig flaps it's yours.

X2! I like mine, got them from the Cummins Powerstore, I trimmed about 3-4" off the bottom of them though so they don't drag everywhere, but they fly up and don't drag once you get driving, but just parked they are about 1/2" off the ground depending on how much weight I got in the back of my truck. I just used 2 pieces of rubber belting like straps and drilled some holes in the back in front of the bumper and bolted them to the flaps so they are just held on by 2 rubber straps on each pretty much so they can flex. They've held on for a few years now so it must work, I thought about using chain or fixing them solid, but this seemed to work good. They keep the snow/mud/rocks off the snowmobiles and trailer when i pull them and they just look cool

Yeah, I gotta get on it. I COVERED my CUCV when I yanked it home last week. I also put my 4 wheeler with plow on the small ute trailer and yanked it 3 miles to my buddy's to plow him out while he's out to sea. I FILLED that trailer with road slush off the duals! Really gotta get my set on there!

Ever since 1985, my truck has had a big set that are emblazoned "KELSEY/HAYES".

About ten years ago, I found an entire K/W one in the big deep ditch/hole out by the mailbox at the shop, complete with the coiled-end/square-rod hanger, long chrome/stainless double anti-sail rods down both sides, big shiny stainless weight-thingie across the bottom, silver-bullets across the top, and red reflector dots up and down the sides.

I keep hoping I will find the mates to all these goodies and transfer them to my truck.

There is a thing called a "dirt skirt" that attaches to your hitch receiver and has long bristles hanging down all the way across the back of your truck. It can quickly be attached when you hook up the trailer and removed when you aren't towing. They seem to offer great protection to trailers from rocks and grit.

I need to amend my above ststement.

The flaps on my truck say "HAYES AXLE INC".

I guess it's the same people.

Those black whiskers that look like push-broom bristles are mostly to keep dust/dirt from covering the rear window of busses, RVs, and such.

They also somehow prevent the dust from invading the rear door seals, which is why you see them on all UPS trailers.

I used to have a giant piece of conveyor belting bolted to a piece of angle iron that hung just in front of my rear bumber (under the truck). It looked kinda rediculous, but kept EVERYTHING off of trailers, except soot. haha.

That rubber conveyor-belt is wonderful stuff.

I got a couple entire belts given to me, many years ago, by the local concrete ready-mix company; about, if not exactly, two-feet wide.

It looks fine to me, but somehow it gets worn to where it no longer holds the stone and sand as well or something.

I made the flaps on my 1978 Chevy from it.

I use it on trailer floors sometimes when hauling horses.

I have pieces of it cut-to-fit in tool-box bottoms.

I use lengths of it to stand on, keeping me off the concrete floor.

It is good to lay under a truck to crawl around on, but I never remember I have it.

The temporary mounting idea is neat for those with SRW trucks and infrequent need of flaps.
