Taming the ride
Taming the ride
Okay, my wife and I are going to use the truck as a daily driver for a few months. The only problem is our baby is due in 6 weeks. Right now she can deal with the bouncy jouncy ride but when the baby drops I don't think so.
So if you have a suggestion about making it ride better fire away. I need all the help I can get.
I've thought about swapping to a "P" or "D"rated tire but I just paid $500 for new ones 3 months ago.

Do you haul a lot of weight with it on trick is to take a couple of the shorter leafs out of the rear spring pack. The short ones give it a rough ride but support heavy loads, the long ones give it its height. You can also add some long ones in place of the short ones, just remember to stack them in an upside down pyramid pattern. You can also add air bags in place of the ones you remove to sill have the ability to haul heavy loads.
As for the front you can re place the front springs with skyjacker soft rides, they arnt realy soft but better that the stockers. the other rout you can take is to install longer front springs. I did this on a solid axle convertion I did on me old 98 chevy, I used ford superduty front stockers, it road like a caddy!
I am curently doing this on my 70 chevy, on this one I am useing 3/4 ton chevy 52" rear leafs in the front, they are about 5" longer than the stockers and use more but thinner leafs, this will give a better ride but sill be able to hold the weight of the cummins.
Your third option is to have custom springs made by some one like national spring, this is the most expencive option but also the easiest. All you do is tell them what you are looking for and they will build it. hope this helps

While they have a lot of pics, other info like the price, seems to be missing from their website. I have seen the bag system under a truck like mine before but I didn't know who made em. Now I do....
Are they hard to install? Interesting.... Chuck

Longer springs
I like the idear of longer springs from Skchevota. On the front, do you keep your main leaf and then then stack longer springs on the main leaf? Have you heard if adding air bags to the front help the ride or make it harsher?
I have a 2wd. The front suspension isn't too bad, a little on the stiff side. The rear is the killer, 60-70% of road feedback comes from the rear. I was going to get the velvet ride shackles, but no luck for a least a month on those. I may end up pulling a leaf, I don't work this truck much.

SORRY LOVEMYSAN, i SHOULD OF READ YOUR SIG.,i DID NOT REALIZE YOURS WAS A 2X. THE IDEA WILL STILL WORK IN THE REAR THOUGH.
AS far as the process, in the rear I would keep the first three or for leafs that are long, then add more longones if neccisary. for the front of a 4x4 you could do the same , or move your spring perches and change to longer ones all together.
