Learn from me, Ride Smart, Ride Safe

OK well I was riding my motorcycle on my property yesterday afternoon, I had been rding on a gravel road practicing 4th gear wheelies Well I had done about 4-5 good 500 foot wheelies and I was feelin pretty confident with myself. So I went for another run, I pulled up made it about 50 feet and gave it too much gas, long story short, I bailed off the back and landed on my wrist spraining it badly and then slid down the road on my back. The bike continued on another 50 feet or so and fell over next to a ditch on the throttle of coure . So I got up and ran to the bike and shut if off as fast as possible. Thank god I was wearin my helmet because I hit my head too. I hope some of you can take my advice and ride more sensibly than I did. My wrist still doesnt feel any better today, thankfully I'm only 17 and I should be able to bounce back from this incedent.

RIDE SAFE

It happens. Helmet is the key ingredient. My son was run over by one of his buddies while riding in 2004. If I posted the "after" pictures they would be edited/deleted by the mods right away. Pretty horrific stuff, over 100 stitches right to the face. Lucky doesn't describe it, not sure what does. The helmet was pulled up by the other riders peg and gashed his little face. He came running up to the house, thinking he had a bloody nose. 35 minutes later the Medivac was there to fly him to Baltimore.

Never been so scared in my whole life and never want to again. I wished more than anything that it was me on that stretcher that day.
All is well now.

Been there done that, my wrist was fine but the old epidermus took a beating. Ended up at the home laying on my belly while Mom dug gravel out of my back, had to sleep on my front for a week or so. Not cool! Still haven't learned though, 29 and still love to wheelie from 1st through 6th without putting the front tire down!

I did that (spit myself off the back of my dirtbike and skidded along on my back on asphalt) except that I thought I had better get off my back before all the hide was gone. So, I propped myself up on one arm for the rest of the skid. It worked, I guess. Still had about 1/2 the skin on my upper and middle back. Bottom side of my right forearm was down to the fat though.

That helmet is a life saver in most cases. This past X-mas a good family friend got in a motorcycle accident after he hit a patch of gravel. The bike threw him off and head first into a stop sign. He didn't have a helmet on and it split him wide open. He lived and recovered pretty well. He was lucky and now he always wears his helmet even if its a short trip down the block. I'm glad you're ok after your spill.

Be careful guys. I was pulling into school today, and a boy I know has a crotch rocket. Well, he was riding a wheelie, and came down from it, and ran in front of a boy that was pulling in to park and still moving decently fast. His left leg took all the impact, there was some skin/blood on the boys front bumper, his bike spun around, and he landed beside it on his back. His left arm was almost cut off pretty much(dont know what it hit). It wasnt moving when the rest of him was. His leg has to be at least broken, because thats what took all the impact. Dont know if it hurt anything else on him or not, but hes luck if it didnt. They brought in a helicopter, and air lifted him out of there. All this happened right in front of me this morning. i was going over a speed bump slow, looked over to my side, and then when i looked back in front of me, all i saw was him laying on the ground, and his bike spinning around on the ground. Probably lucky it didnt kill him. So at least if you do have to ride wheelies, dont do it in a parking lot. Im 18 too, so i understand this stuff, but I dont even want a bike, cause i know how i would ride. I ride wheelies on my 4 wheeler, but heck. As long as you are on flat ground, the worse that could happen is you fall off the back. It just comes up, and hits on the back rack, standing it straight up. Anyways. be careful, and make sure at least no one else is around that could get hurt/hurt you when yall do this stuff.

Eric

Glad you are okay.

One last thought - replace the helmet. So much as one scratch on it toss the thing.

I was bulletproof when I was 17, too - at least, I thought I was!! And, yes, I still ride (see signature).

Same here. As bad as I want one (buddy let me ride his crotch rocket and got me hooked) and as much as I love speed, I'd kill myself as soon as I pulled out of the parking lot. So I just stick to making my truck go faster. At least then I've got 7200lbs of steel surrounding me. Glad your ok.
