Question Tach readings

guys, I am real happy with the way my stock CTD is running, but was curious what the max rpm's are for this engine. Right now, WOT in 5th shows 2500 on the tach( 80mph) and I have been shifting at about 2000 rpm, tho this revs the engine a bit in second and third......
What are the recommended shift ranges? The owners manual give MPH ranges, and I am still having occassional problems with the speedo reading steady as I accelerate.
THANKS.

I would turn the Gov screw up a little and get it to run right up to 3000 rpm or so. As for shifting. What ever works for you. I have an auto and I sometimes shift it manually around 2900 - 3000 rpm. But then again, I haven't found my Governor speed yet. I just don't dare try.

The engine can handle 3,000 RPM, the truck will pretty much fall on it's face after 2,700 stock. If it bogs down when you upshift, you should have shifted later and you'll know for the next time. There's no set RPM where you must shift, it depends on road condition and what kind of a load you're pulling. Just keep in mind that it's easy to hurt an engine by lugging it, but impossible to hurt the (stock) engine by winding it up.

I agree, lugging = low rpm = low oil pressure. I would rather have the pressure up there and let it rev. It does also help having a modified motor under the hood.
