Which T-case to use
Guess I'll let the cat out of the bag.
I've finally started my 74 crew cab project about a month ago. Today I got to setting the motor and trans, trans is a dummy just for measurement purposes, so I could drill for the crossmember. Then it dawned on me, I don't believe i can use the 205 case cause of the little coupling thingy, or was that just used in the 3spd auto trucks?
Anyway, if I can't use that case, which could I use? 208 Aluminum?
Thanks Rick

I'd love to use the 203, I don't think there is anything stronger, but when I was in the parts collecting process, I had called a couple company's (advance adapters) is one I can think of, and they didn't make nothing.
Who did you get yours through?

LOL i hope you kidding about the 203. I have ran them numerous times and had nothing but trouble there big beefy and chain driven not a god combo. I think the 205 is way strong IMHO.

I have that case in my other conv. and the truck is just a monster with the full time case. I'll probably end up using the 205 if I can get the right parts. I'd hate to even think of using a 618 over the 47.

This is from a 4 wheel site where they tear the H*** outta of um.
203- Old, cast iron. Chain drive, full time, heavy. Can convert to part time, not very great. I've never run one, but seen lots of em broken. almost a 2:1 low range, but I don't recall for sure.
205- newer, cast iron, a bit lighter. 180 pounds, and pretty difficult to "bench press" on the back of a tranny by yourself. Gear driven, ultimate in beef. Upgrades available for up to 750 pounds of torque. I've never broken one, but I've twisted driveshafts off with it while the transfer case never skipped a beat. Best t-case out there. 1.96 low range.

I think the 205 would be great they had them with drop downs on both sides so maybe you can find one somewhere. I have never had problems with them even with a 502 BB and 38's with detroit front and back never blew one out

It's not a problem finding one, it's I believe the 205 has a male splined input shaft, and there is a female splined sleve that couples the tranny to transfer, or at least on the 3spd non intercooled trucks. I don't know if the 47 would mate output shaft to input on the 205. The bolt patern would work.
