T-case Grinding!!!!! Help

T-case Grinding!!!!! Help

OK, im in 4L... I stop, put the truck in N....shift out of 4L to N... then when I try to shift it into 2H it grinds and wont let me get in gear!!! with the t-case in N i try to shift the tranny into Park and that grinds too!!! ***!!! this doesnt happed going between 2H and 4H.. is my transfer case going to die? whats happening and how can I solve it!!!!!

Shut the engine off if you get it stuck like that, then put the transfer case into any gear you want to.

ya that happens to mine to. uselly when i shift like that i go fast so that wont happen. but ya do what he said turn off and it will be all good

thats what I ended up doing is shutting down! is this normal? did it hurt my t-case at all

Yeah , it basically normal. As soon as you put the t-case in N, the drag of the internals of the trans cause the output shaft to turn. Like has been said shift swiftly. I would rather grind the 205 than the parking pawl in the tranny. The 205 is really tough. I used to have a 79 f 150 with the 205 and I would kick the t-case into 4lo with my foot under power just for run. Never had a problem. I wouldn't do that in a good rig, but they are burly.

the np205 is a gear driven tc. it's not as user friendly as the newer chain driven stuff, but it's STRONG! if you have the original visors (with your mileage you should) look at the instructions for shifting in and out of 4 wheel drive, it will make you laugh. something that seems to work well for me is to blip the throttle and it seems to slide in easier as the motor is coming back down.

lol yeah, I read the instructions on my visor.. they didn't say anything about when it starts to grind!!!!
