Question Suspension

I have a 1992 dodge diesel LE long bed 3/4 ton It hauls a 27 foot Fifth Wheel. I was having problems on curves with the tires rubbing the Fenders especially at the front end. I then replaced the strut bushings which were bad bad. But I still occasionally get tire rubbing. Shocks are new and the best I could buy. I am getting some feathering on the outside of the front tires. Which suggests alignment is not the best. Are the springs kaput and what should I consider doing to stiffen things up.

The springs on our trucks are notoriously weak. Chances are, your truck has a serious nose down appearance. If you climb under and look at the bumpers over your lower control arms, there may be from 1/2'-2" space since your tires are rubbing. I recently replaced my springs with MOOG 7226S springs. These are the super heavy duty springs for the 1 ton. They fit the 3/4 ton just fine. While replaceing them, it will also give you a chance to check your lower ball joints.

After installing my springs (and yes, my lowers were bad), my front tires DO NOT rub ... perios. My truck is sitting level and I have about 4" space between the bumper and the control arm. A buddy of mine with a 92 that saw my truck before the springs saw it the other day for the first time afterward. He commented aobut how it changed the appearance.

I will be getting some pics in the next day or so and will make them available. I know Texas Hardcore was asking aobut them and I told him I would get them posted. The ride is a little rougher but definitely not bad. Any more ???, just ask.

Carl
Pics will be coming soon.

Thanks Carl I am going to take your advice and replace the front springs with Moog heavy duty springs. I confirmed your analysis the bumpers have less than 2 inches of clearance. If I can manage I am going to take a before and after picture for later posting.

There are the heavy duty springs (7226) and then there are the super heavy duty springs (7226S). I installed the 7226S springs. The 7226 springs are supposed to be the OEM equivalent. Either way, I don't think you will go wrong. I don't remember the specs off hand but they were similiar in everything except capacity.

Just as a reference, I paid $149 for the 7226S.

Where'd you guys order the springs?

I plan on ordering some reallll soon, along with the rest of the front end stuff... my truck walks all over the place, bad alignment, squeaks, pops, pulls, screams, rattles, rubs & sags. Time to change that...

I jsut found a local auto parts store that would order MOOG parts. I personally would not settle for an off brand spring. I will be getting some pics taken tomorrow (at least that is my plan. My wife may have others ). I'll get them up as soon as I can.
