Surprise!

I just crawled out from under and am totally surprised. When did they put Dana 60 3:54 open rears under a W350 dually? At least that is what it appears. The tag number from the rear is 5206816 1 over top of 3 54 605512-1. Go figure.

There are plenty of 'em out there. The "fact" that W350's all came with 4.10's is an urban legend.

Should be a Dana 70 unless someone swapped in a Dana 60.

Yeah they both look the same to me. No wonder I have such a hard time driving when the boat is hooked on.
All kidding aside, what am I looking at. A 60 or a 70? I'll guess the numbers say 60 but it looks like a 70.

Where in the world do you come up with that kinda info. The numbers add up to a 70. Whew! I thought for a while there I would need to turn down the fuel. I guess I spent to much time under there this afternoon. Thanks for the help.
Now all I need is to find a cheap L/S to mount in it.

Any self-respecting 4x4 site is going to have tons of axle info, especially beefy full float stuff like we have. 42'' super swampers put a lot of leverage on axle components, i guess As for the limited slip, there are a few out there for the 70. I have a Detroit Locker and have grown to love it. Since I got new tires, I haven't used 4x4 yet this winter. I'm thinking of a l/s up front. I'd like a selectable traction aid, but I'm not made of $$$
Oh, BTW, you can never spend too much time under your truck

"you can never spend too much time under your truck" has a nice ring to it.

Talking

I'm with Greg on this one...the D70 as in the rear and the D60 was up front.
As for limited slip and/or other options I also agree with Greg.....the Detroit Locker is the way to go.
They have a couple of choices for us guys...I am currently running what DL calls a Detroit "Soft Lock".
It is far more friendly in city/around town drivine and for the most part you/I honestly don't even know I have on in there..
Yes, there are times when I hear/feel it working, especially in the winter weather such as rain etc but all in all it is very nicely mannered unit. Now, when you get on the throttle that baby hooks up and there is NO doubt that it is a true locker....

OH, PS: when/if you have the change done make sure you get your own used open diff. back too...

pb....
