Stuck U-Joint Bolts

The u-joint bolts at the rear diff are rusted solid. Of course I have boogered up the heads on three of the bolts, got one loose. PB Blaster didn't do the trick and I have since read about a concoction that's better - acetone and Dexron, 50/50. An old timer neighbor of mine says I can heat up the yoke with a rosebud but just don't cool it off fast. Another possibility is welding a nut to the messed up bolt heads so I can get a socket on it again. I'm kinda nervous about applying a lot of heat to the yoke. Got any suggestions? Thanks

Buy a new yolk and use a chisel to break the heads off the old bolts.

I have good luck tapping on a brass or aluminum mid piece to impact loosen the bolts, if their stripped that bad, use smaller nuts to weld to the bolt, in short reps, the heat is minimal, if it gets too hot spray mist water to cool it, have patience, and in the future, use a-seize, and a newer tight socket

Those yokes are ridiculous expensive. I'm possibly needing new ring and pinion, bearings and got a quote that blew me away. Parts prices have gone thru the roof. Never even remotely had trouble like this. I'm even having problems loosening the t-case fill plug. I bought an 8-point socket for that one. When I replaced the front bearings, rotors, wheel studs I stripped and had to drill out the locking hub cap screws. Whatever CalTrans uses for ice melt is seriously corrosive stuff.

Last Dana yolk i bought was about $100. Maybe chisel the head off, remove the u-joint and clamp some vise grips on them.

Try a set of GripTite sockets on the stripped bolt, Sears also carries a version of them.

I would not worry about too much heat. I would heat for a 10 count, then let cool. Use a small punch to hit down the center of the bolt. More PB Blaster and let sit for a while.

The Acetone and ATF does work...I've used it myself. But it's more the ATF that does the lube work. The acetone is there only to help make things flow better. What I don't like about this mix is that the two separate very quickly.
