Stuck in 4wd?
Hi
Working on my 92 to be a DD
On snow covered dirt road, Locked the hubs
Engaged 4wd Hi
4wd worked
Once I made it to pavement, I tried to move lever back to 2wd and lever wouldn't move.
Unlocked the hubs and then lever would move to 2wd
Is this correct or do I need to fix something?
Or do you need to back up and then go forward or do the hookey pookey?
Thanks

Backing up while holding light pressure on the lever always works for me. Also, if the situation allows you can often slip it out before you get to the pavement.

you dont want to run 4wd on dry pavement, youll gear bind the t-case, the 205 will do it on dirt, and your method of hub disengagement will work for that too, sometimes the back and forth will do the job leaving the hubs locked for the next coming opportunity to re-engage

What you have is classic torque bind. You turned onto dry pavement in 4wd. Drive straight ahead without accelerating or decelerating. Let the bind unload and it will slip out. My extended cab is worse than my regular cab on this.
By the way, I never unlock my hubs.

My 93 is a little tricky to get out of 4 wheel drive but if I hold light pressure on the lever and let the clutch out so the truck roles ahead a little on flat ground and when I push the clutch back in it usually pops into 2 wheel drive. Sometimes it takes a couple of tries. It works with the hubs locked or unlocked.

Thanks guys
I least I don't have to fix something.
I didn't drive it on dry pavement. Just before I got on pavement, I tried to move back to 2wd.
I've had sveral 4wd cummins and never had a problem.
I'll try the suggestions
Thanks and cheers

I forgot my hubs locked in and drove 300 km at speed limit and ruined a nearly new front drive shaft. Could have been a coincidence but I make sure my hubs are unlocked for driving highway speeds now.

I usually lock the hubs for a few miles every month, but leave them unlocked otherwise.
Thia was my first experience with this 1992.
The hubs get used a lot in the summer back roads and in the winter for snow and mud.
But even with limited slip, the difference between 2wd and 4wd is 50 feet :-)
Cheers
