Strange deal with my Dad's first gen...

My Dad also has a '92. It's a regular cab like mine, but it has a Getrag. It is in far worse material conditon that mine though.

For some reason, the previous owner taped off the ends of the intercooler, removed all the piping, and reinstalled a non-IC crossover pipe and compressor housing.

Why would you do this?

My Dad thinks it because the intercooler was leaking?

I offered to give him all my stock intercooler piping and clamps, along with my stock compressor housing and wheel so we can convert it back to stock.

I've never heard of anyone doing that... Sounds very strange to me.

Sounds like that would be the most logical reason. Might as well pull it out and have it pressure tested before you do anything else.

This makes sense if you think about it. If the intercooler was bad there would be no use in protecting it from dirt. The other thought would be an intercooler line boot busted and someone couldn't find a replacement boot. Checking the injection pump number might give some clues as to what is going on.

Theres ways to tell if its a intercooled motor, little sensors going into the intake plate near the grids and stuff like that, the non i/c motors are so simple its rediculous.

I have no idea if its original or not. When he got it 11 years ago it was pretty nice.

The engine serial number is 56120444. I couldn't make out the CPL.

My guess is its a swap. If the A2A went bad, why would you try and keep the inside clean. If a boot went or something I can't believe it would be easier to find the non I/C crossover pipe then to find the boot.

Non intercooled CPL is 804 if I remember correctly. I think the intercooled CPLs are four digits. Could be wrong bout that.
