Post stock replacement tachometer by Isspro

I have read many threads regarding this tach and it's ability to directly "plug-in" and work out of the box. I am seriously thinking about buying this tachometer. Does anyone have the Isspro part number? I also was confused that some DTR members complained that this tach did not work after plugging it in? I figured either is works or it doesn't............ Does anyone have any comments or advice regarding this tachometer. I know other's are available, but I like the plug-in and play feature. I believe the "factory" tach harness is under the steering column of my 93'.

Thanks David!

Alot of good information about this setup. I guess the "adapter" that Isspro sells is pointless. I gather that it's easier for a person to sort out of wires in the factory tach harness and just extend them up to the gauge itself. I do have the same single gauge pod as you.........it would make a great home for a tachometer. Does anyone have some recommendations for best place to get Isspro gauges? I looked on Isspro's website, (R5503) is about $173. clams. I look forward to getting mine installed.

The only "plug & play" on my old Dodge .

It is truely that simple.

When you say it either works or doesn't, well mine ocassionally will flutter when cold at idle but after that everything works fine. Mine sits in the steering column pod.

Firstgenfanatic, I got mine from egauges.com (R5503) for 138.82. Not including shipping, and I wired mine the same way.

I tried wiring up my ISSPRO tach with just the wires, and it didnt work. I ordered the kit from ISSPRO, and used the wire with the diode or whatever in line, and it works just fine now. Apparently, it's a hit and miss thing.

This was several years ago before folks started saying save your money and wire your own. I bought their kit (which includes a diode for like a 24 volt or something maybe?) I wired like the instructions said and it no worky. After a phone call I switched the yellow and white wires and everything was fine.

Just so it's been said. the folks at ISSPRO are aware of the misprint in the instructions of the cable adapter (White & Yellow wire are interchanged).

Further, the folks at PDR are aware that the adapter is not required for the 1st gen install of certain ISSPRO tachometers.

Why the instructions are still printed as they are, and why people still sell it as required in this application is beyond me.

While we are on the subject of tachometers...........what is the max rpm rating for a stock intercooled 12-valve (1st gen)???? I know folks push the envelope all the time with rpm, but I was curious what Dodge/Cummins states for max under factory stock conditions.
