stock 91 CTD. i need a little more power
hey guys i have a stock 91 non-intercooled CTD. it's a little lazy at low rpm's i was wondering what i could do to get rid of that low rpm laziness. i don't want a race truck, i'd be happy with a slight improvement over stock. any help would be appreciated. thanks, pete
To add power to a Diesel you must add fuel; to increase the maximum quanity of fuel, and the parameters under which the fuel is added, read this guide to pump tweaking.
http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/more_power/Power_ve.htm
Tweaking the pump to add fuel is easy and free, but depending on how much power you want to have (130-300 HP) you will need to spend money on periphery modifications.
Before you add any fuel at all you need to buy a Pyrometer and a thermocouple, which costs under $200. If you want to add much at all, or if you want to tow anything, you need a Hughes (they're the cheapest) torque convertor for $400. A free-flowing air intake can be fabbed for free, and some exhaust for another few hundred will help make power, but isn't necessary.
But beyond that, power is just a few screw turns away...
