What he said. I would think the problem is either a sticky governor or a valve body problem. A pressure test on the governor circuit should help focus in on the problem.

Thanks, I'll check that. As far as these trannies go, do you guys think its mainly other issues, small adjustments, or do you think its the tranny?

question, does the truck take off okay when you manually lock it in low gear and it doesnt take off in drive? if so the over running clutch may be damaged...

If its locked in 1rst or 2nd, it takes off, no stickin'. I thought of that today, and so I started off several times in 1rst & 2nd. She took right off. That over running clutch sounds spendy.

build it right, through a tighter tq converter in it, and maybe a shift kit or valve body and it'll be a whole different truck

I got some quotes, looks like $2200 and up. (ouch). All the shops around here won't rebuild to stock, said that would be pissin' money down the drain. They do the shift kit, and aamco said they do the billet torque converter? Not a mechanic, so not sure on all the lingo...anyways, all the shops say the after market build up kits fix all the issues...hopefully they got 90 days same as cash. Haha! Blacky, your tranny has stood the test of time!

All billet means is that it was machined out of a solid block of aluminum and that it is bullet proof...Mark

Well if its built right, I guess its not too bad of a deal. Also try Ultimate Transmission up there in Boise, I've heard a lot of great things about them on the IdahoDieselPower forum, you can even ask the guys on there about them.

I know, I can't believe my tranny has lasted this long. I know it has been rebuilt once in its life but it was a long time ago, but I'm surprised its holdin up with all the mods and power I have now, Its really surprising me. A built 47rh with lockup will be the next thing i do to this truck though, hopefully I can get it in this summer and it'll be a whole different truck.

The farmer I got my truck from said he rebuilt it himself...she was leaking like a broken faucet, had a crooked heal-a-coil, gasket was broken...headache, headache, headache....farmers...well your a farmer, maybe I just bought her from the wrong one..Ha!...anyways...finally got her sealed up. but the torque converter covers leakin' a bit too. I'll call Ultimate...thanks for the heads up buddy.

Don't worry man, my truck used to be my grandpas truck and he is a farmer and I work for him. And let me tell you, this truck hasn't seen the best days either, its seen way too many pivot tracks and bumpy fields! For what this thing has been through and the rough many miles it has on it, it is in pretty good condition. I guess it just goes to prove these old dodges aren't meant to die and can't take just about anything!

Yeah I've never dealt with Dave and Ultimate Transmission, but I've heard nothin but good things about him and he does a great job and stands behind everything. You should be pretty happy if he ends up buildin your trans. Let us know how it goes.
