Steering shaft/drill through?

So I was having problems keeping the steering shaft on the steering box shaft. Bright idea, drill completely through where the set screw is and use a hardened bolt. Should work great right? Apparently not, now my steering box is pissin' power steering fluid all over. Anybody else done this stupid idea to their rig? And if so, how did you correct it? Any help is appreciated...
I have no idea what your setup looks like but I had an old Dodge van and the steering box locked up after I hit a big bump. I went to a bone yard and got a power steering setup and installed it. The steering column shaft was about 3 or 4 inches too long so I had to cut it off and drill a new hole for the pin which went through it. I didn't have a big enough drill bit so I wollered the hole out a bit bigger then hammered the pin in. It worked fine and I drove it until a caddy driver rear ended it and totaled the whole thing.

The intermediate shaft that attaches to the output from the steering box does not have a roll pin. It has a set screw and lock nut. The set screw kept backing out and letting the u-joint attachment turn on the shaft. I drilled completely through the shaft and used a hardened bolt. Apparently the shaft is part of the reservoir. Who woulda thunk it?
