Question steering ques???????????

I recently replaced all of the pieces in the "collar"or whatever you call it at the top of the steering box because they were pretty much destroyed.Right where the column goes in.Now when I steer the truck it feels like it is hanging up a little bit.Not alot but just enough to feel it when I turn the wheel.Any ideas?I dont need my steering coming apart going down the road.

U Joint Fix

Get rid of the factor rag joint, they are junk. I cut the steering shaft off behind the joint an replace it with a u joint and yoke,it works the best. And cheaper than a Borgerson setup.

Did you adjust the box while you were at it? Not suggesting you should, it just sounds like it might be set too tight. The other thing that can cause binding is a bad clockspring, but that is accompanied by nasty crunching noises from under the steering wheel.

When you rebuilt the collar did you put the little cam things in the right way?
If you didn't they will cause bindind in your steering. If you keep that GARBAGE collar you might want to drill and tap a grease zerk on the side and keep it filled. Or replace it with a u joint shaft.

I don't think those stock couplers have any business on a 4x4. I've heard tell they do OK on the 2WD, but they're pretty useless on a 4x4 far as I can tell. My truck had only 59k miles on it when I purchased it and the steering coupler was already dangerously worn.

Part #PDR5410940 Borgeson shaft, http://www.piersdiesel.com/DodgeUSPrice.htm
Others will chim in on what they have done. To me the Borgeson shaft was easyer took less than an hour. It's a good quality part. Replaces the hole shaft to the rag joint.
