steering coupler

I am getting ready to put a new steering box on my truck and the coupler has a lot of play in it. Has anyone ever rebuilt theres before?

If its the coupler right above the gearbox, I have. Local auto parts store got me a kit and wan't nothing to it. Hardest part is driving out a roll pin.

Yes, but it's a waste of time on a 4X4. The coupler operates at an angle on a 4X4 and wears out pretty fast. You are better off buying a Borgeson or Flaming River shaft and getting rid of the factory setup.

It's a straight shot on a 2wd so the rebuild kit is the way to go there.

Yeah. Get a Borgeson. It really firmed up my steering. I upgraded to a '91 tilt wheel, so I used the double u-joint shaft. You'll probably need the single u-joint / rag joint shaft for you '89, but it'll make just as big of a difference.
