Steering column problem

So I'm putting a borgeson steering shaft on a 92 for my boss and I noticed the shaft that comes out of the steering column is very loose side to side like there is a bearing or something that is shot. Has anyone else seen this, and where do I find parts to fix it?

The column in my truck was that way. I ended up replacing the one in my truck with a better used one. There is a plastic bushing in the colapse section that wears out and causes the slop. It's somewhat of a common problem with these old trucks.

So was looking at the truck again and it's not the steering shaft that is loose, it's the whole steering column mostly the lower half.

So my main question is I need to know how the steering column is attached so I can remove it and see if I can't figure out what's wore out. A video or pic would be helpful.

It's not very complicated to remove. Take the upper plastic off around the ignition switch and unhook all electrical connectors. Disconnect the steering shaft from the steering column but remember not to rotate the wheel or better yet just pull the steering wheel off the colum with the wheels straight forward then remove the clock spring, that is what operates your cruise functions threw the wheel to the column. This is to prevent unwinding the clock spring mechanism or pulling them apart.

With those steps done their are three nuts on the firewall to remove and two more on the bottom side of the dash that hold it upright to remove. That's it, it's then loose and should come out with a just a bit of working the firewall gasket loose.

This firewall gasket that you mentioned, does it support the steering column at all or just a seal? This gasket is where I think I am seeing the play at

I think this is what you're after

It says 94-02 but 92-93 columsn are pretty much the same as
the 94-98 AT THAT BEARING. Obviously they are not exactly the same in every way shape and form
'Rock Solid' Ram Truck Steering !

EDIT: someone on thsi board has used this in a 1st gen before but cant find the thread

Did anyone confirm that this bushing will fit our trucks?
My column has the infamous "clunk" and I'm going to put a new Red Head on soon and might as well do this at the same time.
