steering box options

Why couldn't I put in a 73-79 chevy steering box on my plate, use chevy drag link, then take the chevy's shaft to the steering column? I've had it with these boxes going bad, now I got a cracked output shaft. I like the rag-joint close to the steering box, too. Let me know and we can all perhaps be better off. Thanks, Artie

Flaming River can provide the right steering joints and shaft to use your Dodge steering column. I mounted a steering box and drag link from an earlier 75 Dodge on the crew cab frame and it uses the same size box coupler as the GM version. Your 93 should have the removable rag joint coupler which permits using two u-joint style ends.

Well, against popular consciences, I directly (no plate on the outside of frame)mounted a Chevy (Saginaw) box to my 93 4X4... Works so much better. I used the Axel's steering arm. I had to ream out with a mortisen reamer, the Dodge's axel steering arm. And I cut off 1/2 in off each Chev drag links, GM front rag-joint, A series 1000 Spicer U-joint on the Dodge's column. My adapter plate with some slight modification, I bolted inside the frame, and ran 4 bolts through the plate, frame and into the steering box. I will gusset the adapter to the front cross member. The truck drives unbelievably better. The chevy's box arm length is 1/2 inch longer than the Dodges steering arm on the Axel. It's very tight steering, is no way squirrelly! I can get some pics if anybody cares?
