Could anybody tell me about whether or not the steering boxes are interchangeable between the 1/2, 3/4, and 1 ton pickups. I have a 3/4 ton and the steering seems to have something like a "knot", for lack of a better word, at the centered position. It just gets hung up momentarily at times at centered. I was at a junkyard recently up in PA and noticed 4 or 5 half ton dodges that have not had the steering boxes robbed yet, and got to wondering about whether or not they put a stouter unit in the stouter trucks.

As far as I Know ( not very far sometimes ) they will bolt on. I can tell you this because I have a 1979 1/2 ton box on mine now. I do know it has to be from a 4x4.
Just so you know..at some point they changed the pressure and return line fittings from flare fittings to something that looks like a/c fittings with an o-ring on it. My truck had the o-ring fitting on is so I had to change lines and the delivery valve on the rear of the p/s pump to the '79 style fittings.
I did buy a rebuilt box when I went to the Mopar Nat's this past year, I just havent had the time to put it on....and the '79 box is still working fine.
PM me if you want and I'll give you the company that I bought the rebuilt box from. It was reasonable price wise IMHO.

 

If it is the same as GM saginaw boxes the fitting change was in 81. I miss the simple flare fittings.
