started the day out great today now what

I didn't check the weather this morning but it felt about 0*F and I didn't plug my truck in last night so I was a little unsure how it was going to go. Waited for the heater and she fired right up. I let it warm up for about 15 minutes wile I got my lunch ready and grabbed a quick breakfast. I made it about 5 miles out and she lost power then died. the first thing I did when I got the hood open was to hit the water sep valve and it sprayed a pretty large amount of water, the filter has been there a week so thats not a great sign. I pulled the filter and primed the lift pump and got flow not a huge amount but it did pump what looked ans smelled to be fuel not water. I have no clue on how to trouble shoot the fuel system and I really don't think it lost compression just like that. I have a tank in the bed that I have been afraid to try because I bet there is water sitting at the bottom of it. I'm kind of thinking the switch valve decided this morning would be a good time to go to that tank and got me a good shot of water. It has been warm all week so I'm not sure it would have froze up over night. Well lets hear some ideas it's in a nice warm shop at the moment and I'm going to mess with it in the morning.

Your story sound just like me and my truck last year.....Only mine was plugged in and it was a good -25F. Made it about a block and mashed th gooo peddle and........it started acting up and died...................after i got it back into my garage and a nice fire in the stove for several hours.......then a salamander heater aimed at the fuel tank................still had to prime the hole system and bleed the injectors..........

Sounds like you have more problems as water will freezer much fast the diesel will jell..........You may need to drain your fuel tank if you have that much water

thanks I also found out that driving from school to home I go about 250 miles north and have a different grade of protection against gelling. At least thats what a local trucker told me. I guess I'll find out in the morning if the heat helped it out.
