Speedometer bouncing, now way off

Speedometer for a long while bounced wildly, a while back i took the VSS, ratio adaptor and the piece that screws into the transfer case out, cleaned and checked everything then reinstalled it. Now the speedo is perfectly steady but reads way way off. Could all the bouncing have made the needle slip on the cluster??

Same here. When I'm going 35-40 mph the speedo is reading 65-70 mph.

Not trying to thread-jack.

For testing purposes, remove the ratio adapter and screw the VSS directly into the transfer case output and see what your speedo does. I have had bad adapters, VSS, and wiring play havoc on my speedometer.
