Speed sensor on rear differential?

There's a speed sensor going into the pumpking on my rear diff, the wires going to it are both broken off. Could this be why my cruise control is erratic and doesn't hold steady speed? Hope so.

Speedo/Odo work good. Brakes are great. I'd imagine that sensor has something to do with ABS, which i don't think works. But then again I've never really locked up my brakes.

Thanks
Brandon

Brandon, I believe that sensor only affects the ABS system...Mark

I just need to fix the wires I doubt anything is wrong with the sensor itself.

Thanks for the replies guys. I was really hoping that was my cruise control issue.

Horn Blows ?

Clock Spring ?

Im assuming you've checked every thing under hood.

As far as I understand it, your trans has the speedo sensor. The one in the diff is for the ABS up until '98 where they switched it to double as the speedo and abs sensor...

With the touchiness of the 3200rpm spring, it will try to make the same adjustments as if it had the 2800 but it will surge/overcompensate. Very typical problem when you raise the RPM limit in the VP trucks according to my friend. You have to some how make it slow its adjustments down. Maybe adding to the fulcrum to make it move the throttle slower while still letting the cruise use the same speed of adjustment will help.

Good point. For a damper, I put a piece of WD-40 spray can straw in the cruise vacuum line on my p-pumped truck. Worked quite well. It smoothed out the surge very nicely.

Clock spring and wheel switches are Brand new, as well as the servo being brand new. I converted my truck to have cruise control like factory, everything was plug and play but cost big $$$$

I set the cruise control and it puts it pedal to the metal, then i push decel and hold it for a second and it'll steady out where i want it then it'll go up like 2mph every minute. It never stays put when it does work, and it always goes full throttle when i first set it.

I have a 3200 spring in mine and the cruise works fine. If you bring the truck over to my place I will put my scanner on it and see what the problem is and fix it. The scanner will show us why it is speeding up when it is already at the Target speed.

Alright cool.

I tried moving the throttle rod ball back to the outside hole on the pump lever, didn't make a difference, and i also tried a spring on the cruise cable. NO difference.

I'm thinking about doing the vacuum restricter thing, and hooking a scanner to it.
