Sore butt

I just got back from San Antonio, Texas with my first diesel. Got it off Ebay for $4600. '93 D350 Club Cab Dually, 5 speed, 3.54 rear, A/C, 210K miles. Made the 1700 mile trip with no problems with the truck (me, on the other hand...). Got 18.6 mpg running a steady 70 mph, used 1 quart of oil. I noticed a couple of odd things. First, it seems to have a bit of slack in the driveline. If you turn the driveshaft by hand, you can make it go about 1/8 of a turn back and forth. Is that normal? Seems like a lot of play to me. Also, the engine is out of an automatic, I think, because the remains of the water line from the trans cooler are still on the thermostat housing and there's an extra plug in the water inlet elbow. Also the throttle cable bracket has provisions for a kickdown cable. If I get the CPL number off it, can I find out what year the motor is? Thanks for any info

Re:Sore butt

I think the kickdown function was controlled by the computer and not a kickdown cable/rod? Not ever having an auto I'm not sure about that tho

Confused about a water line for a tranny cooler as well? Why would a tranny cooler be tied into the cooling system?

Re:Sore butt

The kickdown and line pressures are controlled by the cable from the throttle. The lines were meant to go to a cooler that is mounted under the turbo on AT equipped trucks.

If you have the CPL someone here can tell you what it was meant to go in. You could also check in a Haynes manual

The next time you get in this dilemna, just apply a generous amount of Solstice Salve.

Wow, that brings back a lot of memories.

Notice the basic questions I had - we all start from nothing.

Sore butt and can't hear myself think!
Just finished a move from CA to Va; a little over 2500 miles. The cab was noisy and the ride was rough, but man oh man, what a diesel engine. Had to fix the brakes in Wyoming and tighten rear lug nuts all the way to Illinois, but that 6BT was passing semi rigs on the upgrade draggin' a '01 Mustang on a car hauler. 78 mph at 2200 rpm and 12 mpg with the 3.73 gears.

I was just rooting around through some old boxes in the basement and found it, amidst the cobwebs and rat nests.

I really wasn't looking for nothing in particular.

One other thing I have noticed is that, when a person changes their sig., it changes in every post that person has ever made.

This can lead to confusion, on account of someone digging up some old information, and the truck it applied to is no longer described.

I saw quite a few that make no mention of a 1st, or even 2nd, Gen. in their sig.

Hah, that was great! From what we know now it's kind of surprising there's a missing question in that 1st post:

"Okay, guys, what do I tweak first!??! Can I get JUST A LITTLE MORE POWER???"

I stumbled across this going through archives and forgot it was an older post when I replied, so Deja Vu all over again....

When I got the truck I was just gonna straight pipe it and change the turbine housing. Then I took my first step onto the slippery slope...
