So... I picked up an HE351CW
Now I realize that I am embarking on a path that is not as simple as I first thought. Right now from a red light all I can beat is a garbage truck or a school bus. Sometimes not even that. I'm not trying to turn my old truck into a hot rod. I'm not trying to street race with ricers. I just want to add a little HP. Right now my H1c with 21cm housing there's nearly zero throttle response. I have done plenty of reading and learning but I still know so little. So now for my questions. I'll be needing a pyrometer and boost gauge. What brands or types should I be looking at? What should I do first? Gauges, exhaust upgrade, turbocharger swap, or star wheel adjustment? Do I need a spring gate? What else should I take into consideration?
I found a cheap addition is a Wh1c which has a smaller housing with a wastegate. The compressor is better also. I adapted the output to connect to the crossover tube with a hose adapter and hooked up the WG actuator with a boost controller to limit it to 34 psi. Then it's just a matter of turning up the VE to get the power you need. Look in my photo gallery for pics of the setup.

you'll need an HE351 exhaust flange adapter from Keating Machine, $39. then you can block off all the solenoid ports and build a spring gate for it, here is my build thread, my he351 install and spring gate build is in there somewhere. cheers.

I did the same, 21cm housing on stock turbo to the 351cw. It is a nice improvement.
I didnt use a spring gate, tack welded my wastegate shut. I had mine setup for towing so i had the fueling conservative, 40psi max boost.
