Snow Traction?
Snow Traction?
I noticed last winter that in 7 or 8 inches of snow the black truck, in 2wd HI, seemed to "push" the front wheels along. It was so bad that the truck actually felt like it was bogging down. The truck was nose heavy with the 440 and I'm thinking it'll be even worse when I get the Cummins in there. I know I could use 4wd in that case, but in 8" of snow it seems like it would be overkill.
Would 500 or a 1000 pounds in the bed settle the truck down and help to plant the rear wheels? Different tires? I'm using 235 width LT road tires. Can't remember the brand.

My truck did real well last winter with a home made weight rack in the bed. I'm also running 235/85-16's. 450 lbs right over the axle seems to work pretty well, the truck drove fine as long as I didn't get stupid with the skinny pedal. It's in my photo gallery, can be duplicated pretty cheap and easy.
Dave,
That is trick. I've got 40 lb steel plates at work. 1" x 2' x 2'. I'll try to work some sort of frame to hold 10-15 of them. Hopefully that give the rear axle a little more oomph.

What ever you put in the bed for weight make sure you ancore it down, as a fireman I went on a call where a guy had a 4x8x3/8" plate steel in the back.........well after the headon collision the plate came thru the cab and chopped the guy in half......not a pretty site, A 4x8 sheet steel is a very good weight but BOLT IT DOWN PLEASE.
