Sky Jacker lift kits?
Sky Jacker lift kits?
I'm looking to replace the springs on my truck and want to go with a little lift. I'm thinking 4inches. I see the skyjacker kits come with and with out rear springs. Is everyone puttin the blocks to bring the rearend up or getting the new springs? Also if I do go with the blocks and no rear spring can I order them sparate at a later date and not get hosed if I decide I want them?
No. On the 2" kit (mine) the rears are actually about 6" so you can ditch the blocks. Very good thing to do - reduce or eliminate axle wrap. I was thinking about doing some traction bars until I was under there checking it out the other day. Wanted to start measuring and come up the actual plans to start cutting, drilling and welding the stock. I was looking at the spring mounts when I just suddenly realized the thing doesn't need any traction bars at this point in time. It'll break the rear loose on dry pavement in 3rd gear heading up onramps with no problem at all. Romp on it from a standstill and the tires just spin, no vibration or shudder whatsoever.
But, be prepared to do crossover steering as well if you go 4" and plan on big tires. My steering at 2" lift with 285s is not too bad, but I can imagine it would not be acceptable any higher than that.

There was another thread here just last week, I think where it was discussed with some links and recommendations:

Basically what happens is the steering geometry starts getting out of whack the higher you lift it becaus of that short bar connecting it to the steering box on the driver's side. You need to use a long cross over steering bar to the passenger side at some point.
