Should i buy 91.5?

Im looking at an 1991.5 reg cab 4x4 with 206,000 miles. Guy wants 3000 or best offer. The truck aint perty, it rides like crap and is all over the road, the suspension sucks, but the motor and tranny are pretty solid. What do i need to look for? And is there anything i can do to the suspension to help?

Probably just needs a new steering coupler, springs and shocks. Check to make sure the steering box mount or the frame behind it is not cracked. If it is, talk him down. You might even try to convince him the steering coulper itself is a major issue (safety!).

I agree, that many miles on the automatic... he'd better have service records...

I bought a 92 CC 2wd off Portland Or. C/L asking price $3000 then 2500 then 2000 or OBO I made an offer of 1500 he said no a mouth later he called. kind of the same thing power steering don't work needed brakes and some other small things but the truck is very good other than those things. Big thing is that the paint is very nice. I put a can of stop leak in the power steering I will try anything once it slow the leak way down fixed the front brakes I don't know that the rotors are 2 piece 3 piece if you count the hub. put a new TV cable on it and a head lite switch and it now drivers good . I would say that for 3000 you could find a better truck.Ken

No way I would pay 3K for a truck with that many problems.

Contrary to what everyone else has said, I would have no problem buying an auto that has 206K on it. Unless it has been abused of course. My truck is getting closer and closer to 200K, (about 190K now) with the stock 518, and she shifts perfect. If it is a stock truck, and he didn't tow with it, I would be willing to bet the tranny is in good shape. I would be a whole lot more worried about the suspension.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies, the truck is a dog but didnt know if it was worth redoing. Yeah its an automatic. I know absolutely nothing about the 12 valve motor but am sure if i had a service manual i could learn real quick. Ill try to jew him down. He also has an extra virgin motor and some 500 percent over injectors he's talking about in the deal. Thanks again and i will ponder on it for a while.

Play truck

I was going to try to get 500 hp out of it. But i have read that it is impossible without converting it to the vp 44. I guess with huge injectors and a twin setup with a buttload of nos would get me there though. I dont know the front end was all over the road, no tail gate, beat to pieces except for new front fender that dont match, lord knows what else is wrong, shoot i would be afraid to jack the wheels off the ground and check for play. Nothing seems to be leaking though, thats always a good sign. I think the motor and tranny are pretty solid, im just worried about the rest of the truck. I was thinking there might be some kind of conversion kit for the front end. Who knows.

The VP44 wouldn't be the best choice if you want it to run for more than a week. He may have said P-Pump, and if he did, he didn't know what he was talking about. There are many 1st Gen's over 500rwhp, and a couple over 600rwhp. That is with the 14mm H/R though, you will need that to break 500rwhp.

I would say pass that truck up though...

For $3000, if you're ready to buy then you need to keep checkin craigslist ad stuff.

Thats where the deals are, i'd agree and pass that truck up unless he'll take $2000 for everything. we just payed 2000 for the 93 in my sig and theres not a straight body panel on it, thats borderline. $2000 or no deal IMO
