selector shaft seal?

selector shaft seal?
I dont even know if thats the right name.I have a 93 w250 with the a518 and its leaking trans fluid around the shaft that the shifter linkage attaches to. Does anyone know where to get a new seal or how big a job changing it is?

any trans shop should have it it is a common place for dodges to leak. easy fix. take a flat blade screw driver grind a curve on the blade leaving one original point. grind a small notch from the original point toward the handle. now u have a shallow hook which one can tap between the seal and shaft and pry it out easily. big c-clamp, 15/16 socket on the new seal, length of wood next to the trans pan to prevent damage. squeeze seal in easily. piece of cake.

....but Jughead also forgot to mention that you have to drop the pan, loosen the valve body and swing it out of the way, or if you remove the park brake lever you can remove the valve body completely. Once all that is out of the way I use a screw driver to punch the old seal "up" out of the bore. Then clean everything really well, place new seal on bore, big "C" clamp and a piece of wood and then tighten down.
I put off doing this to a 727 for a couple years because i thought it was going to be worse then it was. Took a couple hours from start to finish and was way easier then i had thought. And as a bonus you get to change your filter and fluid too....

absolutely not one does not have to drop the pan. i did it for over 25 years. come by my shop and i will show you it takes longer jack up the truck than to do the job.

not a problem. worked flat rate for so many years one had to try stuff. we were not too smart though. had to brag about how we did stuff and chry just kept cutting the rate. young and dumb i guess. i could beat flat rate on engine and drive train 30 to 40 percent in the 60s early 70s because of trying things different but look at it now and i guess i am a has-been.

they also make a special tool for removing and installing the seal but they cost money lol. Also there is a smaller seal in the center of the selector shaft where the tv cable attaches and some times a leak there can look like it is the selector shaft seal.

I made my "Jughead" tool today for removing the shift lever shaft seal. That was after I attempted removing the seal with picks I got from Harbor Freight.
The Jughead Pick did the job.
