Sanding down the clearcoat?
If your looking for lowbuck, go to Tractor supply and buy a gallon of there enamel paint with hardner for about $35 and spray away. If you use the hardner that is recommended it is really durable and has a good gloss. The only downside is that it comes in basic colors, white, black, red , silver and maybe a few more. If you ever need to do any touchup, the next can you buy may not be an exact match so you may consider buying extra and mix it all at one time. I have used this on tractors and a few trucks, it's easy to spray and it ain't bad for the money.
Since there are so many variables in paint work that two of the same proceedures don't always work the same, this might help.If the clear is cracked and or flaking off you might be able to strip it with a razor blade scraper then sand and prep whats left.Usually the thicker the clear is the easier it will scrape off.I have seen times when you can blow paint off a car with air pressure. If the hood is the worst and doesn't strip or sand well take it off the truck and use paint stripper on it and sand the rest but DON'T use paint remover on fiberglass it can make it a real mess. Look at his pics of the Charger, it`s outstanding for a budget paint job. I am seriously thinking of doing my truck this summer...if i can scrounge enough time.

I am seriously thinking of doing my truck this summer...if i can scrounge enough time. The paint is cheap enough for auto paint I think but I'll get it professionally done anyway. Some guys I know painted a plane over the winter and I'm thinking I might get them to shoot it for me in exchange for some computer work/parts.
Thanks for all the advise.

I just replaced a bunch of body panels, and am going to weld up some new skins this weekend. After that I am going to blast the whole thing down to bare metal and paint. When I bought the truck, it had been a contractors truck...not worked very hard, but carried all sorts of different chemicals in it (paint etc.) I am going to take it all down just to make sure. I took my Charger down to primer and then painted it myself. Paint came out nice, but the paint I used reacted with something already on the car (primer?) and the paint started flaking off. Had to take it back down to metal after that, so I figure might as well spend the extra time and effort in blasting it. JMHO....
