sachs clutch into a 98.5
sachs clutch into a 98.5
I recently found the end of the road for my nv4500. I had recently replaced the clutch in this truck with a LUK pro gold that chattered horribly (3 months ago).. I talked with my clutch guy who whipped out a Sachs cast iron unit and talked it up as the end all problem fixer.. It looked a LOT heavier duty than my stock LUK clutch so I bit. I installed a new nv4500 today with the new sachs clutch unit and have some problems. First off is a BAD vibration any time the engine is running but worse at idle. Secondly the clutch does not engage until the pedal is VERY close to all the way out, so close that just touching the pedal makes the clutch slip under power. What have I done wrong, or where should I be looking for a mismating problem? The flywheel is my first suspect as it does NOT have a groove milled into it for the pressure plate-- the clutch shop said it was not necessary and just to buy longer bolts. What do you Sachs experts think?
Thanks in advance,
Jason

After doing a little looking is this even a good idea? Is this Sachs clutch setup worth the time it will take to do this again? I am getting pretty tired of lying under this thing. The clutch guy says he can fix the LUK clutch also, should I let him adjust the clutch (however you do that) and put it back in? Thanks again for the advice.

Well? I am grasping at straws here, I would like to keep the best clutch in this truck but it REALLY needs to get back on the road. Every day it doesn't run I have to drive an F450 with NO AIR! in Alabama!!!!!

Since the truck is stock I think it is worth it. IMO it is the best all around clutch as long as you are NOT planning to do much in the way of horse power. I would get the right flywheel for the clutch. The one you have now may be able to be machined but that is more time lost with the truck down after you get it out and then down to the machine shop then waiting for them to get it done. But if you have one of those money trees growing out behind the house you could go and get another clutch kit that is right for the engine and trans. Good Luck

Well, looks like I have Sachs clutch to sell. It WILL NOT WORK with my flywheel, and a different flywheel just adds to the confusion. The clutch shop is getting me a new HD clutch (no idea what kinda but its my only option).. Any idea what this Sachs clutch and pressure plate is worth? The clutch disk is new and the pressure plate looks like new but I am not sure..
