Rusty drums

I have been tracking down a moderate to severe shake or bounce in the rear of my truck I have replaced tranny mount with no success. I checked the u-joints,the outer wheel bearings, the tires are balanced. The only thing that has helped is the new shocks. It keeps the vibration from getting to bad and shaking me off the road. I took the tires off and ran it up to 40 and there was still a shake. I looked at the drums and noticed the edge of the drum was so rusty it was starting to come apart in chunks and one drum had a balancing weight and the other didn't. Could this cause a shake like an out of balance tire. Do all dually drums have a counter weight.

All factory drums are balanced, odd thing though not all after market ones are. If it were bad enough it could cause a vibration.

I'd think that an unbalanced drum could give you the shakes. A counter weight could have come off? how recently were the tires balanced?

Tires balanced 2-3 weeks ago but it still shakes with tires off while on jack stands.

Check bearings and front end parts for wear. If theres no wear and bearings are good, id lean towards same thing.

How well did you check the u-joints? Same thing happened to a friend of mine and when he described it to me on the phone I said u-joints and he insisted they where fine. I said they were probably starting to seize up.

I just did the eyeball and shake them test. They are probably going to get replaced Saturday when I do the drums and depending on the inner wheel bearings they might get replaced also.
