running gear!

i just replaced all my front wheel bearings and u-joints. when i turn it still feels like something is grinding almost. its more when you hit a slow turn you can really feel it. i havent checked the differential but im also wondering if my x-case is engagine 4x4. i can go under the truck and spin it freely but im wondering if its riding a fine line of just barely engaging. how can i check that. and also my speedometer doesnt work sometimes untill i hit about 40-45 it will kick in. is that the speed sensor?

TIA i really appreciate the help!

If you're getting a grinding around corners, check out the differential if you have a limited slip. Mom's auto has started that kind of stuff, but it is in her transmission- feels like the brakes are letting things slide ever so slightly when sitting at a light, yet the truck never moves. Local yokel junk parts rebuild........

As for the speedometer, check to see that the miles still roll over when it reads zero. If they do, your problem is in the gauge itself, likely the needle stuck somehow. The 93 speedometers are different from the 89-92 units. If the miles dont roll over, check your connections, and continuity of the wires going to the VSS.

it could be in my tranny also. it sounds like the tc is going bad or a bad bearing somewhere. im just waiting for it to go so im not guna worry about the tranny. but thanks for the tips.

and the speedo still turns over but like i said it'll kick in at 40-45. and if not i have no overdrive. just some projects to eventually look into. the longest drives i'll be doing with it are probably 50 miles from my house.

thanks david

You may want to try locking your front hubs and taking her for a drive with xfer case in 2H and see if you still hear the noise. I had a locking hub go bad and it would make sort of a wheel bearing type grinding noise when taking corners.

When mine was doing it the sound was traveling up the driveshaft. Sounded like the frontend, but it was the rearend. Spider gears were wonked and the carrier bearings were spinning in the case.
