Running Boards
Running Boards
It's me again Margaret
. Hey guys, I was thinking about getting me a set of running boards for my ctd. I talked to a guy that said he may take them off of his '92 and sell them to me. Question I have is, how much do yall think that there worth? I am not sure if this will even happen yet but I dont want to get taken to the cleaners if he decides he wants to sell. There real nice. there the full link of his 1 ton dually ext cab and its like they were molded to his fit the truck. The color I need too, white
. Any info on what a fair price would be I would really appreciate because I havent the foggiest ideal on what is a fair price. Thanks Mike

When I'm buying used, I try to find out what it's worth new and offer half if it's near-perfect. You'd need to know the brand and model, then Google for it. Used running boards could have rusty brackets and mounting bolts if it's been around for a while. Might make it worth much less if you had to make new mounts.
I think new running boards for a 1st gen are made of unobtanium. There are very few aftermarket products available any more, Dodge was not a big player in the pickup market at the time our trucks were made. Make the man an offer that's not insulting.

So that's what has been going on.
And I was told that you were hoarding all the old stuf for a museum.

If he is intending to remove them, he has a reason.
Don't act too interested.
Let him go ahead and take them off; then, let him soak awhile.
After he moves them around in the garage awhile, he will give them to you.
I had a like-new set given to me, recently, that a guy had taken off of his personal truck.
He tried to sell them for $40, then $20, then $10, then I came along and got them for free.
Myself, I like running-boards.
They protect the rockers and sides from flying rocks.
Braced properly, they make a good step, either to enter the cab, or to access the windshield.
They provide a neat place to run a string of marker-lights that really look cool at night.
Unless they are those fiberglass/plastic ones, they are easily adapted from one brand/model truck to another.
I have four trucks with running-boards; and, excepting the wife's, not one of them have the correct ones meant for them; no one can tell as they look like they are meant to be there.

My truck came with a pretty nice set. they go from wheel to wheel. I hate the way they look and would love to take them off but they are just so darn functional for everything. You can actually stand on these and they don't bend. I'm guessing they don't make them anymore since many people have asked if I wanted to sell them. I think they are deltaIII or something like that. I wouldn't go crazy on the price unless everything is perfect and its an exact fit for your truck and its really what you want. Most stuff like that seems to never sell for much around and if you sit long enough it will fall into your lap for free.
This is a matter of practicality and personal opinion (what isn't).
Ya know, vehicle enthusiasts tend to over-identify with their transportation. I know I do. Somethimes the chosen vehicle and various modifications even reflect the individual's personality somewhat. So here's my $0.02:
Stock suspension, pizza cutters, running boards = dorky old guy.
Lifted, big tires, no running boards = egomaniac of any age.

If I had kept all the aluminum I tossed ,one truck at a time ,I could've bought a nice truck. They are so 1989. they were practically the only thing you could buy for these trucks other dorkey old man caps. Youd have to be crippled to need them on a 2 wheeler.
Three of the last four trucks I have bought have had these. They were all 2wd. They all came off as soon as I got home, if not sooner. Coincidentally, all three of these same trucks came with the "old man cap". Those came off too, but I always kept one around incase I needed it. They are nice when you need them, but I took them off asap.
Would you believe that the people that owned these three trucks were old?

I used to think the same way and refused to have them on anything.
Then, after having a truck re-painted real nice with very expensive paint, only to have the lower portions all chipped up and crappy looking in a few months, I got to noticing that the r-board equipped trucks, that came into the shop, never had a speck of paint gone, nor the first rock ding.
I had that truck painted again, slapped on a set of r-boards, and that made a believer out of me.
