rims and tires
My 1993 W250 came with 235/85/16 on 6-inch rims (pizza cutters). I wanted more rubber on the road. A quick calculation revealed that a 265/70/16 was exactly the same diameter and I was able to find some Goodrich take-offs with less than 100 miles on them cheap. The 265 needs a wider wheel so I found some Econoline 250 steelies (also cheap). I don't deal with snow here in Atlanta and the 265s provide much better dry pavement traction. They look great and still fit within the fender wells.
I am running 33x12.50 R16.5 BFG A/T with no problem on road or when towing.. I tow about 15,000lbs with my 4x4 set up..
here are the rims that came on my truck.. no idea if they are stock or not???

I currently run 315/75/16 on my truck. They are equal to a 35x12.50 mounted on 16x7.5 rims. I love them. They look good and function just fine for what I need them for. I have no lift or any special backspacing on my wheels so if I got through a gutter fast or turn all the way to the right there is a little rubbing but not enough to hurt anything.
If you can fit them on the front of your truck, something like a 305x70x16 or 33x12.50x16.5 mounted on a 8-8.50 wide rim would be really good. They are the same height as the factory 235/85/16 (roughly 31 inches tall) So you would not feel the difference in gearing and power but they are wider so you have better contact. Just my two cents.
