RH46 vs RH47 identification

I need some helpful pics...

I've got a 1991.5 regular long wheel base 2WD, truck. I believe the transmission is dead as it barely goes fwd and fights doing nearly anything at all in reverse.
After reading, it doesn't seem logical to rebuild it as they were so weak and that is the reason for the RH47 design! I'm suppose to go look at a 94' RH47 out of a 3500 Ram. How do I know it's a RH47? I keep hearing ribbing of the body-is this obvious.
I'll try and get the whole deal-
transmission, flex plate, adapter plate, and starter.

Hopefully slotting the holes(got a friend with a mill) and making a center support brg- it will drop in easily. Of course, back flush the oil cooler and rebuilt the lines- that flex against the radiator looks really bad.

I think there's a thread in the sticky about a 47RH install, so there may be some pics there. You could also go say hello to the 2nd genner's, send them my regards, and ask them if they have any. OR, you could just do a search about 47RH and specify the 2nd gen. drivetrain area using the onboard search engine this great site provides free of charge. That way, you don't need to let the 2nd genner's know you're even there. Secret Squirrel like.

I just put a 47rh in my 92 d250. how to tell what tranny is you need to look at the plug that go in the top of the tranny just in back of the shift linkage not the one that goes in the side of the tray [518 46rh] will have a flat plug in with 2 wires coming out of it. [618 47RH] will have a flat plug in with 3 wires coming out of it. cut the plug in off you will need it. [618 47RE] has a round plug in that has I think 7 pins. first off the thread in the sticky is for the 4x4's its the same from the tranny mount forward but its not from the mount back. I made my tranny mount off the 518 work but after I spent haft a day welding on the cross member. Someone sade to use the 94-95 mount and just re drill the cross member so one more thing to make sure you get. next the fill tube some just use the 47rh tube and say that it needs some bending to work I dint have one I used the one off the 518 if you do the same you need to cut the ear off the side tranny before you put it in. Cooler lines get the one goes from tranny to the cooler on the right side of the motor the one off the 518 is to short.drive line I had to have mine shorten by 1" some say you don't have to but I did. Rubbing I beat the pinch seem flat and if your body mounts are not in good shape you will have some trouble there I do. As for the 518 being a weak design and not worth rebuilding I think that's BS! some say that the 727 out of the 89-91 trucks is a better tranny than the 518 but when you get down to it its the same tranny just with a OD added . When you buy a rebuild Kit its for a 518 618 the 518 use all the same part it except the rear band yes the rear band is stronger is it that much stronger. The big killer of the mopar tranny is not having the TV cable adjusted right it a lot better too have too much tension on it then not enough. would I do it again if I was just driving around town and not doing a towing NO I would not. I would just rebiuld the 518 and put a good conveter in it. I do a lot of towing as of late so this is when this where the 47rh tranny shines. ken

Thanks!

Yea, that info needs to go in the sticky- get the crossmember mount and the dip stick tube also. I kinda figured it came with the transmission.
Sounds like maybe I should call some trans shops and see what price we're talking. It doesn't want to go into reverese and it acts like it doesn't have any power at all. So, I figured 2 bands or plates are engaged at the same time. Maybe the rear band broke or something locked...

After installing my 47RH the dipstick had to bent slightly also.....
Then when I went with the new turbo and the 4" DP I had to delete the dipstick completely !! Didn't want to run it up against the exhaust manifold - I cherish my skin too much

I got a Lokar flexible dipstick and was able to route it under the DP and over towards the fender. Only wish I had bought the 36" length instead of the 24", now the top is attached to the heater blower cover - and that thing is plastic....Wonder how long the screws are going to hold there ?
