Rebuild RH46 or replace w/RH47

Guys,

Is it necessary to upgrade the trans or can it just be rebuilt with some better parts cheaper? I'm running about 300 hp right now.

I thought the main difference between RH46 and RH47 was the locking torque converter.
The stronger band, more discs etc will fit a RH46 correct?

Michael

I decided to go the 47RH rough because the overhaul prices were not that different. With the 47RH you start with lock up and a stronger transmission and build from there. There is a lot you have to do to the 46 to equal the 47.

A new lockup TC is going to cost a bunch more than a non-lockup. I think the 47 is better, but it's going to cost a lot more to rebuild/upgrade.

I went 46 because it was easiest. It just goes right in. A 47RH is better of course.
