I just went to Dave's and found that DS879 was Standard Motor Products. I could not get it to search out a MOOG part.

When I searched by vehicle at the Dave's site, using 1977, w200, 440, and Drag Link, I got ACDELCO 45B0031 for $110.92. Not sure what to think.

yup that is the one bob. I have one on order along with a PLOW pressure hose... Now I have to find the right fitting on a chevy power steering pump to transfer to the cummins. I found a nice set of steering shafts in the pick n pull. Even at their inflated prices 25 bucks is better than 250 +++ for a BORJUNKSON that looks like you pulled it off the titanic as soon as you unpack it from the shipping box it is delivered in.

Mine has that thing in red as well. Actually all of the XJ shafts I pulled / looked at in the yard today had that "sleeve"

Not sure if it will need to be removed or not to make it fit in the first gen.

Glad the pitman worked out for you! Looks good... not sure why it was rusty, it had a Mather AFB sticker on the truck, which is in the dry valley here and we don't salt the roads...

Strange mine has what looks like a mini shock absorber dust boot.

Im very sure it will need to be removed. INSTALL only reason.

All of the shafts I found had the plastic sleeve that you're referencing. I assume it's for something that is utilized during a crash ?????

All the shafts with a rubber boot that resembled a shifter boot or shock boot were all in later year Jeeps.


Maybe it's a regional thing..... Don't know.

First, thanks for the link to that great price on a Moog draglink.

A question:
The NAPA website shows different two different draglinks:
a) NCP2721132, a straight draglink that fits the '72 to '74 Dodge W300
b) NCP2721411, a bent draglink that fits the '75 to '77 Dodge W300

I believe all the W300s from 1972 to 1977 had the reverse rotation steering boxes? If so, why were there two different draglinks?

The Drag link for the 72-74 W300 is for a D70F front end. (4500LB)

The Drag link for the 74-77 W300 is for the D60F front end. (4500Lb - Same as ours)

I'm sure either will work but the length might be different? Main thing is you want to get the link for the 4500 lb front end, not the one for the D44.

I've used the straight one on ours with a reverse rotation box with no issues FYI.

Bad news guys, called in to DAVE'S auto parts to check on my drag link order that hadn't been shipped... They said it will be shipped and they had a 2-3 day processing order. The dude was rude on top of it.

THEN an email comes and says they no longer stock the item and they will refund the money. ?!!? what about the PS pump hose?! ....

Anyway so yeah too good to be true. You're stuck buying a 150 part now.

Dave's won't be getting my business ever again!

Yeah so the XJ shaft don't fit. It is a 3/4 like the newer boxes. The old Reverse boxes have the bigger 13/16" input. I have a universal joint on order right now 13/16" spline on one side and 3/4DD on the other (to be fastened to the Jeep shaft after I cut off the small ujoint. I'll let you know how it goes. I should've just bought a borgenson first off weeks ago and been done with it. I have spent 2 days driving around to the yards picking and pulling shafts and none of them fit. So now I have a 100 dollar ujoint that I *hope* fits and have to cobble together a custom solution.

Problem is only older trucks have the 13/16" input shaft and all of those I've seen have a rag joint at the box... No U Joint. So custom is the only way - cobbled or borgeson your choice. Or you can replace the whole early dodge steering column.
