Replaced the front shackles.

Feels a lot different. It will never ride smooth, but there is a small element of what I would call "plush" now that I can't remember it ever having.
Need longer shocks though, they were too short for the stock lift, now they are inches too short.

Hi Mhuppertz,
I'm contemplating a front axle shackle lift on my '93 as well. So I have a couple of related questions for you:
a. Whose shackles did you use?
b. Can you provide the length between the bolts for the new shackles?
c. I'm assuming you had to realign. What did you use for alignment specs? Specifically, where did the caster angle end up? Did you have to use taper axle shims to get the caster back towards OEM?
d. Does this front axle lift affect your steering? In particular, do you now have to add a steering damper, or have you experienced axle wobble before or after the shackle change?
e. Given your choice of shackle lift, did this result in a level truck? Looks closer by eyeball, but how about with a tape measure?
f. Lastly, what brand and model number did you end up with for front shock absorbers?
Regards,
Pete

b. Can you provide the length between the bolts for the new shackles? 5" center to center
c. I'm assuming you had to realign. What did you use for alignment specs? Specifically, where did the caster angle end up? Did you have to use taper axle shims to get the caster back towards OEM? No realign, these trucks usually need more caster anyway. The alignment is better now.
d. Does this front axle lift affect your steering? In particular, do you now have to add a steering damper, or have you experienced axle wobble before or after the shackle change? No change noted, except previously mentioned benefits of increased caster.
e. Given your choice of shackle lift, did this result in a level truck? Looks closer by eyeball, but how about with a tape measure? I put a little more air in my airbags in the back to get make the stance the way I like it.
f. Lastly, what brand and model number did you end up with for front shock absorbers? I have Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks all around. I have not yet replaced them with longer versions. I have had good luck with these.
Regards,
Pete
Hope this helps,
Mark

I was a technical artist by trade and degree, so whenever I need to make something I run home to mama and 3d it all first on the computer machine.
